Jesus began his ministry preaching the Kingdom of God and performing miracles. Many followed him, including the twelve he eventually called. In prayer to the Father, Jesus first called the men, the ones he selected from the many who were following him. The called were then in a position to choose. These two principles are still true today.
For the person wanting to be chosen (to be mentored or a student) must be willing, demonstrated by faithful following, to be called. No doubt, Jesus, in consultation with the Father, did the calling. But also note, that those called had the option to refuse; only the willing and able (in this case, middle class small business owners with the ability to follow, contribute and with time to serve) could follow. He appointed them, first to be with him, as relationship is essential in discipleship/mentoring. Then he prepared them to preach with authority, just as Jesus did, and to minister in the power of Holy Spirit as Jesus did.
The purpose of this course is to help Christian leaders mentor and effectively coach men and women with a call of God on their lives. This function, that of mentoring and training for the next generation, has been a passion of this author and the team at Vision International Training and Education Network. It’s divine mission, our biblical strategy for reproduction, and mentoring guidelines are presented here with a hope that other schools, pastors, and leaders will take the principles and run with them to even greater success.
